GPC STATEMENT 10 04

Greenpeace Canada responds to Alberta Environment s decision not to prosecute 2010 tar sands duck deaths 4 October 2012 (Edmonton) Greenpeace Canada Climate and Energy Campaigner Mike Hudema offers the following statement in response to Alberta Environment s decision today to not prosecute the 2010 tar sands duck deaths: Its very unfortunate that Alberta Environment is not going to prosecute Syncrude and Suncor. These ducks didn t die because of bad weather. They died because their natural habitat has been replaced by toxic tailings lakes. Syncrude and Suncor should have to answer for the tragic costs of the toxics they create and release into the environment. These lakes continue to grow and pose a danger to animals
